Widget not updating?
Analog clocks don’t need any of this: your launcher turns their hands. Dot clocks are redrawn by Kanso Dot every minute, so for exact minute flips allow Settings → Apps → Kanso Dot → Alarms & reminders. The steps below help any widget (dot clocks, weather, battery and now playing) on phones that stop apps in the background aggressively.
Kanso Dot never asks you to turn off battery optimisation, and most phones don’t need it. Only change these settings if a widget stays out of date. Menu names vary between versions, so look for the closest match.
First, try the basics:
- Open Kanso Dot once. Opening the app refreshes every widget.
- Tap the weather widget to refresh it.
- Check you’re online, and that Battery Saver or Data Saver isn’t blocking background data for Kanso Dot.
OnePlus, OPPO and realme (OxygenOS, ColorOS, realme UI)
- Open Settings › Apps › App management › Kanso Dot › Battery usage (on some versions, just Battery).
- Turn on Allow background activity. If you see Allow auto launch, turn that on too.
- Open Recents, then lock Kanso Dot (tap the ⋮ menu on its card, or drag the card down) so clearing Recents doesn’t close it.
- On older versions: Settings › Battery › More settings › Optimise battery use, find Kanso Dot and choose Don’t optimise.
Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO (HyperOS, MIUI)
- Open Settings › Apps › Manage apps › Kanso Dot.
- Turn on Autostart.
- Tap Battery saver (or Battery) and choose No restrictions.
- Open Recents, long-press Kanso Dot’s card and tap the lock icon.
Samsung Galaxy (One UI)
- Open Settings › Battery › Background usage limits.
- Make sure Kanso Dot isn’t in Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps. If it is, remove it.
- Optionally, add Kanso Dot to Never sleeping apps.
- Then open Settings › Apps › Kanso Dot › Battery and choose Optimised or Unrestricted, not Restricted.
If “Put unused apps to sleep” is on, Samsung may put Kanso Dot to sleep again later if you rarely open it. Adding it to Never sleeping apps prevents that.
Pixel and most other phones
- Open Settings › Apps › Kanso Dot › App battery usage.
- Choose Optimised (the default) or Unrestricted. Avoid Restricted, which stops background refreshes.

Common questions
The clock shows the wrong time or time zone
Clock widgets show your phone’s own time. Check Settings › System › Date & time and turn on automatic time and time zone. If you set a different time zone for one widget, change it in that widget’s settings in Kanso Dot.
The weather says “as of…” or won’t load
When a forecast can’t refresh, Kanso Dot keeps showing the last one and tells you how old it is, instead of going blank. Check your connection, then tap the widget to try again. Now and then the forecast service is briefly unavailable, and the widget catches up on its own.
How is my location used?
Only if you turn on “Use my location” for weather. Kanso Dot asks for approximate location, rounds it to about 1 km on your phone, and sends it only to get your forecast. It’s never read in the background or stored with anything that identifies you. Prefer not to? Pick a city from the built-in list instead. See the privacy policy for details.
The now-playing widget doesn’t show my music
- Make sure notification access is on for Kanso Dot: open the widget’s settings in the app and follow the prompt, or find Notification access in Android Settings (often under Special app access).
- Start playing something. The widget follows the app that’s playing, or the app you picked in its settings.
- After a restart or an app update, Android can take a moment to reconnect. If it doesn’t, turn notification access off and on again.
- On OnePlus, OPPO, realme and Xiaomi phones, also follow the background steps above.
Some apps don’t publish playback controls, so they can’t appear in any widget. Notification access is used on your phone only, and nothing is sent anywhere.
A widget looks cropped or the colours are off
Resize the widget: Kanso Dot picks a layout for each size. If Material You colours don’t follow a new wallpaper, give your launcher a moment, or restart it. Some third-party launchers handle widgets differently. Tell us which launcher and version you use, and we’ll look into it.
I got a new phone. Do I pay again?
No. Your purchase is tied to your Google account. Install Kanso Dot from Google Play on any phone signed in to the same account.
How do I get a refund?
Google Play handles payments. Soon after buying, you can usually request a refund directly from Google: see Google Play’s refund help. After that, email us your order number (it starts with GPA.) and tell us what went wrong. We’d rather fix the problem, but we’ll help either way.
Which phones are supported?
Phones running Android 12 or later, with a launcher that supports home-screen widgets (almost all do).
